 At Notre Dame Hospital, Hearst, Friday, June 11, 2010, Clifford E. “Ted” Wilson, at the age of 93, born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, long time resident of Hearst, and in recent years resided in St-Marys and London, Ontario, beloved husband of the late , Jeanne d’Arc Wilson (née Bégin) , son of the late A.P. Wilson, and Lila Esson Sinclair.
Loving father of Raymond and wife Claudette (Philippon); Robert and wife Diane (Fortier); Donald; Michael and wife Diane (Poulin); Marilyn and husband John Topham; Tom and wife Mona (Lamontagne); Gisèle. Loved grand-father of Marc, Renée-Ann, Renée, Luc, Danielle, Richard, Eric, Daphnée, Pierre, Sylvain, Christine, Bryan, Liane, Céleste, Hugh, Lissa and Mélanie. Great-grand-father of Ariane, Samuel, Nicolas and Alexie.
Predeceased by his wife Jeanne d’Arc (September 13, 2009) and brothers, Charles Robertson “Bob” (1944), Howard, Keith, and sister Ruth. Survived by his sisters Winnie and Sheila.
Ted was among the pioneer families moving to Hearst in 1918, his first home being the railway station where his father was the new station agent. Growing up in Hearst, he attended Hearst Public School then completed Secondary school at the regional Northern Academy in Monteith and was much involved in organized sports, as a baseball, hockey, tennis player, and in future years as a manager, president or sponsor of the Hearst Lumberkings. He is a WWII veteran having joined the Royal Canadian Signal Corps and was stationed first on the West Coast of Canada then to Australia. He was a founding member of Hearst Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173, a faithful service club organizer for the Hearst Lions Club, helped host many Gala Days for Hearst‘s Canada Day celebrations. He helped establish the Hearst A.A group (John D.) in 1956 where he was very active. He helped establish the Hearst Figure Skating Club and was its first president. He worked in the clothing business most of his life, starting in the men’s department at Chalykoff & Co. as a store clerk, then founding Ted Wilson Men’s and Boys’ Wear in December 1951, in downtown Hearst. In later years he enjoyed cottage life with his family at Pivabiska Lake, and travelled often with his life-long companion, Jeanne.
Family and friends will be received at Salon Funéraire Lafrance Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 15, between 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Wednesday 10:00 AM to 12:00 and 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Cathédrale Notre Dame de l`Assomption on Wednesday, June 16th at 4:15 PM. Interment will follow at Monseigneur Pierre Grenier cemetery.
